Gunner arrived at Living Free in April 2018. He had an ongoing ear infection, which made him a little head shy. He was also reserved around people – preferring to roam around a yard rather than come over for love and affection. The kennel team knew he simply needed some time to figure things out. He also needed the cleansing fresh mountain air and wide-open spaces to run around to help him recalibrate.
Within a year, Gunner was a different dog. He actively sought out attention from people and especially enjoyed visits from our volunteers. He had become a gentle giant and was loved dearly by all those that met him. Gunner finally found his forever home on July 12, 2020 with Miguel Ramos of Fontana.
Miguel shared, “I always wanted a dog for the longest time. I wanted a companion and company to go walking with me. I looked at different shelters and then I saw Gunner on the Living Free website. He reminded me of the German Shepherds I grew up with.”
Miguel came to meet Gunner and was instantly taken in by his laid-back personality. Miguel works from home, so he wanted a dog companion that would be able to hang out with him. Gunner has brought a lot of joy into the household. Miguel shares, “He has funny little expressions that make me laugh.” However, as Miguel discovered, Gunner expects Miguel’s companionship to extend into some unconventional areas. As Miguel explains, “Gunner is a bit of a goofball. He wants company with him when he eats.”
When he’s not working, Miguel takes Gunner on long walks. Gunner learned this routine quickly and makes sure to let Miguel know when it’s time to go out. Miguel shares, “We go for walks every day. Following the first week Gunner came home, he started sitting at the door every afternoon once the sun started to set until his leash was brought out so that his afternoon walk could begin. To this day he still walks up to the door and sits down waiting to be walked. He definitely keeps us all on a schedule!”
Miguel sounds like you have found the perfect companion and Gunner has found the perfect home. Thank you for caring for this wonderful dog and for giving him a loving home.
