Maurice, a lovable little dog, was first rescued by Living Free in June of 2014 as a young two-year-old. He was adopted in November of 2014 and enjoyed a loving home for 6 wonderful years. Sadly, in 2020 his adopter’s health declined and Maurice returned to Living Free. Maurice, now eight years old, was considered a senior dog and the staff worried that he might have a harder time finding a new home due to his age.
Meanwhile in La Quinta, CA, Laura and Steven Andranigian were making the difficult decision to say goodbye to their adopted senior dog. He had developed serious medical issues and they knew it was time to let him go. Laura shared, “Once we were able to deal with our grief, we vigorously began to look for another senior dog.”
Laura and Steve are huge advocates for adopting senior dogs. Laura explained, “We have a soft spot in our hearts for senior dogs as they are generally passed over for younger dogs. They have lots of love to give and we wanted to provide a loving home for a deserving senior dog. We saw Maurice on the Living Free website and called right away. Within four days we had an appointment to meet Maurice. We knew right away that he was going to become part of our family. We brought Maurice home in April of 2020.”
Maurice, lovingly nicknamed MoMo, is now living the best life imaginable. Laura and Steven dote on him, making him an integral member of their family. Laura shared, “I think he thinks he is a person. Maurice loves to sit around with us and watch T.V. He also does not act his age – he just turned nine in June. He acts more like a baby than a senior dog. He loves to be picked up and carried. I think he would love it if I carried him around the house all day.”
“He gets the ‘zoomies’ and runs around the house; almost every night after he eats, he will dig around in his soft bed making funny noises. It is almost as if he is saying – ‘Yup I am loved, I am cared for and I am happy’. I hope some day to take him to my kindergarten classes. I think he would just eat up the love the kids would give him.”
“He has developed mild seizures and a mild heart murmur. We are treating both these things with medication. We are so happy that Living Free rescued him and that we were able to give him a chance at life. He is part of our family, and we think about him in everything we plan to do. We love him very much.”
Laura and Steven, we are so very happy for Maurice that you came into his life and are providing a loving home for him in his senior days. We would like to encourage more folks to consider adopting senior dogs or cats. They need love as much as the younger dogs and cats and will thank you many times over with more love that you can imagine.
