Living Free is happy to share the story of Quartz’s amazing, 14-leg journey back to our sanctuary from Colorado.
Quartz was originally rescued by Living Free Animal Sanctuary on April 9, 2019 along with her brother Nomad and her sister Phoenix. The pups were 1 1⁄2 months old. We are overjoyed when Quartz was adopted on May 29, 2019 at 3 months old.
In January of this year, Quartz’s adopter let us know he could no longer keep Quartz and wanted to return her. We will always take back dogs who were adopted from Living Free, no questions asked.
Unfortunately, Quartz’s adopter had moved to Colorado. After some time looking for a way to transport her we got in touch with Mark McDonald, a former Living Free volunteer who had moved to Colorado as well. He was volunteering at a rescue called Animal Friends Alliance in Fort Collins. They told us about an amazing non-profit transport organization, Just a Girl Moving Dogs (JGMD).
JGMD was able to schedule Quartz for a transport that took place from March 12th to March 13th. They broke the trip into 14 legs that moved her through 4 states (CO, UT, NV, CA). All the drivers were volunteers for JGMD. Through Facebook messenger we were able to track Quartz’s journey home. All of her transporters loved on her, and although she had a couple of grumpy moments, she did great on the trip. She was very happy to see our Kennel Supervisor, Edgar, at the end of her journey.
Quartz is now in our kennel and is doing well. In the next few weeks we will be evaluating her personality so that we can determine the best home for this resilient dog.

Absolutely a wonderful safe group. I love how Quartz was on a halter and leash at all times and secured in the vehicle. It seriously took a village to get her home. And Quartz is beautiful! That beautiful brindle coat! That you for always having your animals backs!
