Elsa arrived at Living Free in July of 2019 a very shy, timid, girl that would not let anyone near her. She and her much smaller companion, Wren, were very fearful of people. The kennel staff believed both dogs must’ve experienced some abuse or rough handling from humans in their life. The volunteers and staff worked hard to build trust with both dogs.
Little Wren was the first to start to walk up curiously to people. Elsa had a harder time learning to trust people and her extreme shyness made it very difficult for potential adopters to connect with her. Despite this, Elsa was very warmhearted, loving, and even playful with those she did trust. The staff had a feeling that Elsa would be the one to choose her adopters.
In February of 2020, Samantha and her son, Dylan came to Living Free looking for a companion to complete their family. They were introduced to Elsa and, although she was a little timid, she seemed to make a connection with Dylan and didn’t hide or run away. Samantha said, “I looked at my son Dylan and noticed how he and Elsa were looking at each other. It just felt right. We took Elsa home with us on February 17, 2020.”
“Everything has worked out better than we had ever imagined. Dylan has wanted a dog since he was young and now, he has the best companion ever. Elsa runs our house, and we just adore her. She goes wherever Dylan goes in the house and stays right at his heels. Elsa sleeps with Dylan and is very attached to him. When Elsa first arrived, she warmed up quickly with Dylan, but it took her a little longer to be comfortable with me. She is doing better with strangers now but is still a little shy.”
Samantha added, “We love Elsa, and it is hard to imagine our home without her. She completes our little family. We tell everyone about Living Free and the great place it is. Thank you so much for giving us Elsa.”
We are so happy for Elsa that she has found such a loving home with two people that were able to give this shy girl a chance to have a home. Thank you both for giving Elsa the opportunity to bloom and show the world the sweet and loving dog that she is.
