Hawkeye loves to learn new things. This stocky 8 year old mustang is curious, smart, and craves human attention. He is personable and approachable, which is why many veterans in our War Horse Creek program feel drawn to him.

Hawkeye has a beautiful blood bay color coat with a white sock on his left hind leg and a star-snip on his face. He was gathered from the Triple B HMA on 2/20/18, in north Elco, Nevada. Four months after he was gathered from the wild, Hawkeye arrived at War Horse Creek in June of 2018. He was brought in alongside two of our other mustangs, Trapper and Emmy Lou.

Since his arrival, Hawkeye has shown off his clever and resourceful mustang nature. He is notorious for figuring out latches – and has taken himself and Trapper on a few excursions around Living Free property. He learns very quickly and his curiosity has allowed him figure out new things constantly. His only fear – he is terrified of the mares in our herd!

Hawkeye is a favorite among the veterans. He is very easy to get along with and inherently respectful. The veterans really enjoy his playful nature. When you take the halter off of him, he stays right next to you. He makes you walk away from him, whereas all the other horses will walk away when you let them go.

One veteran, Everett Wong, has worked closely with Hawkeye since he first arrived at War Horse Creek. The most impactful moments between them have been in times of stillness and deep connection with one another. One of those special moments was candidly captured – Everett staring deeply into Hawkeye’s eyes, who was staring right back.

Hawkeye is a remarkable mustang. His charisma is apparent from just being around him. He has an intelligent eye and observes any newcomer with an inquisitive look. He has helped and will continue to help many veterans in the coming years. We are so grateful to have Hawkeye as part of our herd.
